The objective of the financial services foresight, started in April 2009, is to update knowledge of the world's financial markets and the situation in Estonia, and also to find out the financial services industry subsectors in which Estonia has the greatest potential to increase the international competitiveness. From these cleared up areas, recomendations and action for the public sector how to use these areas and possibilities Recent economic developments have given significant attention to the financial services situation and development on the level of country and the unions of country. In a number of small countries like Estonia economic success and prosperity has been brought because of the focus on specific subsectors of financial services. These countries, as well as countries connected to the European Union, in difficult times deal with the development of state legislation and tax environment to offer competitive conditions to the financial services sector, and thereby secure access to capital and employment. At the same time, the financial services providers in today's global financial crisis are more open to financial structure jurisdiction and companies location alternatives. This creates a favourable context for Estonia to study the topics not yet treated in the public sector - in which financial services fields Estonia could be competitive and what needs to be done to realise its potential. |
The parties behind the financial services study are the Estonian Development Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication. Funding for the study was supported by theTarkade Otsuste Fond. The study is carried out by Oxera Consulting Ltd (UK). See also:
