The Development Fund probes the future of Estonia's manufacturing sector
29.04.2008
The Development Fund is launching the foresight project ‘Ways of Restructuring the Estonian Manufacturing Industry' that is to end in October 2008.
The Development Fund's partners in conducting the project are the Finnish research company Etlatieto Oy and the consultancy company Gaia Consulting Oy. ‘Ways of Restructuring the Estonian Manufacturing Industry' is to a certain extent a follow-up to the Development Fund's study completed in January, ‘The Estonian Economy Current Status of Competitiveness and Future Outlooks Status and Prospects of the Estonian Economy', which provided an overview of the situation in the Estonian economy, its structure and international competitiveness and culminated in the Development Futures Forum.
This foresight project focuses on a more precise analysis of the opportunities for increasing the competitiveness of different branches of the manufacturing industry and thus changing the structure of the industry, as well as respectively outlining necessary development activities.
The objective of the Development Fund's foresight project is to define specific growth possibilities for Estonia's manufacturing industry in the globalising world during the next 10 years along with the necessary steps to exploit these opportunities in the following 3-5 years.
In the course of the project, entrepreneurs, researchers and policy-makers will be engaged in the foresight work through workshops and interviews while the outcome of the project will be discussed more extensively during a conference to be held in the autumn.
On the basis of the tenders submitted, athe Finnish consortium comprising Etlatieto Oy and Gaia Consulting Oy was selected to carry out the project. Etlatieto Oy is a subsidiary of ETLA, Finland's largest privately funded economic research institute, whose staff have long-standing experience in studying economic and industrial developments and advisingcouncelling public authorities. Gaia Consulting Oy is one of the principal international consultancies advising Finland's public authorities in organising strategic and foresight processes. The project team is led by the head of Etlatieto Oy, Pekka Ylä-Anttila.
