164 applications received for technology investment grants

10.06.2009

HEI 12(21): From the end of March until the beginning of May, Estonian companies were able to submit their applications for the second round of the technology investment support programme for industrial companies. The programme supports companies in the acquisition of contemporary plants and equipment, and the volume of this application round is 320 million EEK. A total of 164 companies have applied for funding, and the financing decisions will be announced in July.

"Despite the poor economic conditions, industrial businesses still have great interest in investment grants," said Pille-Liis Kello, the director of the enterprise capability division of Enterprise Estonia.

"In the first round at the end of last year, we supported 51 companies and around ten of them have already used their grant; today, we haven't heard from any company that would like to completely relinquish the grant and the investment."

The biggest number of applications was submitted by companies in Harju County. Compared to the first round, the requested amount per project has increased. "Based on feedback from the companies, we made the grant terms more flexible in the second round, in cooperation with the Association of Estonian Leasing Companies. In the first round, only the down payment of a lease was eligible for support, whereas now the entire leased sum is eligible," explained Kello.
