Estonia climbs to 24th in e-readiness index

18.06.2009

BBN: Estonia placed 24th, up four places, in the e-readiness index of The Economis and IBM that covered 70 countries, writes Äripäev.

Estonia was only one of nine countries that improved their ranking. According to Riina Roosipuu, sales manager of IBM Eesti, the reason why rankings of so many countries have gone down is the ongoing economic crisis that has frozen many public and private partnership projects and stopped development of e-services.

The top five in the ranking were Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Norway and US.

Lithuania climbed from 38th to 32nd and Latvia kept its 37th place.

Since 2000 the Economist Intelligence Unit has published an annual e-readiness ranking of the world's largest economies.

Nearly 100 quantitative and qualitative criteria- organized into six distinct categories feed into the rankings. The six categories are connectivity and technology infrastructure, business environment, social and cultural environment, legal and policy environment, government policy and vision and consumer and business adoption.
